Character History

Nothing is known the criminal known as Stradivous prior to his appearance in 1940 along the docks of New York City.  A master clarinetist, Stradivous was able to compose and play hypnotic and manipulative music, distorting emotions and evoking behaviors of which the subjects were unconscious.  At some point under unknown circumstances, Stradivous fell in with a dock commissioner named Vernon Jennings.  Jennings concocted scheme to rob ships heading to New York by sinking them and scavenging their cargo.  He and Stradivous had acquired an old light house and installed a transmission system that could be directed at ships, hypnotizing the crew to wreck the ships before the reached New York. In late December of that year, they became aware of a large shipment of gold which they made their next target.

Unknown to them, Happy Terrill got a tip that Jennings had been making large deposits coincident with timing of sinkings leading him to investigate.  Following Jennings to the lighthouse, he uses his own radio receiver to tap in and realizes that they are attempt to ground the ship.  Quickly transforming into his identity as The Ray, and use his power to manipulate light and break the hypnosis of the crew before the ship was wrecked.  With them back on course, he zipped back to the lighthouse and resumed his identity as Terrill.  As he does, he is spied by a lookout stationed by Jennings and taken prisoner.  Rather than murder him out right, Stradivous uses his Clarinet, presumably to get Terrill to kill himself.  Carelessly, the criminal musician had left his transmitter on after failing to crash the trip and the sound attracted a nearby police boat.  The flashing beams illuminating the lighthouse cause Jennings and Stradivous to flee and Terrill’s head to clear, allowing him to become the Ray.  He smashes the transmitter and races downstairs, subduing the lookout and seeing the police arriving on shore.  As they fire a machine gun at the fleeing criminals, the Ray re-lights the lighthouse to restore it’s function as a beacon.  The police vow to arrest the two criminals the next day.

Whether they were ever arrested and the final fate of the Stradivous on Earth-Two after the Ray left for Earth-X is unknown.

Powers and Abilities

Stradivous was an impressively skilled clarinetist who playing could hypnotize, suggest or otherwise manipulation those with auditory range of his instrument.  How much of that was raw skill on his part and how many might have been customized properties of his clarinet are not clear.  He was also a wily schemer with a keen criminal mind who, so far as is known, evade captured on Earth-Two.

Weaknesses and Limitations

Stradivous was by all appearances an ordinary human being with all the predictable limitations of such.
