The backstory of the criminal known as Astra the Astrologer is unknown prior to his first recorded case in 1943. In the Spring of that year, onlookers were surprised when a group of archers approached Chemical Trust Company and once inside, fired arrows of laughing gas into the air. As the guards collapse in laughter, the bowmen relief of first their keys and then their loot. As they leave, the remind the witnesses to see a new movie that they are filming for.
Realizing something was amiss, Woodley Allen contacts Starman who vows to investigate. Meanwhile. the criminal bowmen have returned to a secret hideout where they meet their crime boss, Astra the Astrologer. Astra attributes their success to the positive influence of Sagittarius and says their next crime will focused on Aquarius, the water bearer. In this crime, Astra plants a bomb on a roller coaster, calling a car to derail and start a fire at a nearby bank. Disguised as firemen - water bearers - they will slowly put out the fire while pocketing cash from the bank.
The derailment goes off on cue and the "firemen" rush in. Ted Knight witnesses the event and changes to Starman to assist.. Inside, he realizes the truth of the situation but is blasted back with water hoses as the roof collapses. Leaving him pinned, the criminals emerge to a heroes welcome and make their escape. Shortly thereafter, a new crime was planned around the constellations of Cassiopeia and the Lyre, using an old woman as a prop and guns hidden inside harps. They feign a fainting spell for the old woman to get rushed into a jewelry store and then turn the tables with the lyre-guns. Ted Knight is again a witness and quickly changing to Starman, he repels the the robbery. As they escape, Astra appears in a stolen milk truck and unloads its contents on Starman in a veritable "Milky Way".
Recovering, Starman finds milky footprints and follows the trail. Arriving at Astra's expansive hideaway, he charges the criminal only to be dropped by a trap door onto a scale between a lion and a room of scorpions. As the lion attempts to clamber onto the scale, Starman tips it in with the scorpions and escapes. He bursts in to find Astra and his men planning their next crime based on Capricorn but caught off-guard, they are no match for the hero and quickly defeated. Astra and his men are then carted off to jail.
The later activities of Astra in the Earth-Two timeline remain unrevealed.
Powers and Abilities
Astra the Astrologer was possessed of an excellent strategic mind and had amassed considerable resources to build his criminal operations, the origins of which are unknwon. He employed gangs of thugs and outfitted them with costumes and weapons fit to specific crimes and was a gifted schemer. The full extent of his resources are unclear as his backstory remains unknown.
Weaknesses and Limitations
Astra without his thugs, was an older man of below-average physical condition would could be defeated and captured as such.
Multiversity
No version of Astra the Astrologer is known outside of the Earth-Two timeline.
