Earth-X

The history of Earth-X prior to 1941 has not been revealed but is likely very similar to other parallel worlds such as Earth-One, Earth-Two or even Earth-Prime.  Many geographic markers and historical figures appear superimposable with this timeline  and Earth-Prime.  Contact between this timeline and others prior to 1942 has not been documented.

The history of this timeline is known to have shifted in an unfavorable direction in 1942, when probability began to shift in favor of the Axis forces.  Whether this was a standard bias on this Earth or an event altered probability towards evil is not clear. These events were uncovered by the Earth-Two hero Uncle Sam who was pulled into a vortex that landed him on Earth-Two.  After engaging Nazi forces at home and watching the U.S. remain on the sidelines, he recruited several Earth-Two heroes - Hourman, Red Bee, Red Torpedo, Neon the Unknown, Miss America, Magno and the Invisible Hood - to join him.  Having a vision of the imminent attack on Pearl Harbor, Sam attempted to thwart the Japanese fleet, a battle the appeared to result in the deaths of all of his recruits.  While the heroes' sacrifice appeared to delay or repel the Japanese, an unintended result was that the attack on Pearl Harbor never happened and the U.S. prolonged it's entry into World War II, allowing the Nazis to gain even more ground in Europe. When Sam attempted to warn the U.S. forces in the Pacific, he was labeled a lunatic and institutionalized before finally being released.

In 1942, Sam finally worked up the will to go back to Earth-Two and plead his case to the All-Star Squadron. A group of heroes returned with him and engaged another visitor from Earth-Two: Baron Blitzkrieg.  The heroes battled and ultimately defeated Blitzkrieg, learning that Hourman and the Red Bee had survived the initial battle with the Japanese.  The price of victory, however, included the life of the Red Bee.  Uncle Sam and a few heroes remained on Earth-X to continue the fight (All-Star Squadron #31-35).  A few months later, a second wave of Earth-Two heroes joined the fight on Earth-X (All-Star Squadron #50).  Other contact between Earth-Two and Earth-X is unrecorded and whether all of Uncle Sam's "Freedom Fighters" stayed on Earth-X is unknown.

For the next  two years, the Freedom Fighters battled Axis influence at home and abroad.  As the Allies worked to developed atomic weapons to swing the tide of battle, they suffered a setback with the sudden death of President Franklin Roosevelt of a heart attack in 1944, a full year before he passed of a stroke in other timelines.  The change in administration caused a delay in the atomic program, allowing the Nazis to catch up and began a slow war of attrition with the allies (Revealed in Justice League of America #107).

Over  the next 25 years, the Allies steadily lost ground.  The Freedom Fighters remained active but some members from Earth-Two, including the Blackhawks and Plastic Man, were killed in action.   When the Nazis reached America, they began to systematically execute members of civilian resistance units including Doll Man's fiancee, Martha Roberts (revealed in Freedom Fighters #10).  Whether this was the Earth-Two Martha Roberts or Doll Man had fallen for her counter part is not clear.  The Earth-Two adventurer Firebrand (Rod Reilly) also moved to Earth-X at some point and worked as a double agent, eventually escaping to Earth-One (revealed in Freedom Fighters #12).  At some point, Nazi agents captured the founding documents of the United States, which either mystically weakened the fabric of America's resolve or simply demoralized the populace to the point that the Nazis gained the upper hand (DC Comics Presents #62). While nuclear weapons programs were stalemated, the Nazis began work on an artificial intelligence program that would allow broad scale mind control of the citizenry of Earth.  The achieved a breakthrough in 1968, launching a satellite and series of outposts in Paris, Japan and the United States that projected beams of mind control around the planet.  The people of Earth became docile servants of the Nazi state and while pockets of resistance remained, the Third Reich essentially conquered the Earth.

Five years later, a malfunction in the interdimensional transmatter device caused by Red Tornado resulted in the deposition of members of the Justice League and Justice Society on Earth-X.   The JSA members did not recognize the Freedom Fighters, having forgotten their brief acquaintance in the All-Star Squadron but were drawn into their struggle to free their world.  Unknown to all parties, heroes and villains alike, the AI driving the mind-control device had achieved sentience and it, not the Nazis were actually in control of Earth.  The AI retained the trappings of the Nazi government and the same autocratic control, including an android Hitler to speak through.  The fate of the real Adolph Hitler on Earth-X is unclear.

Combining forces, the JLA, JSA and Freedom Fighters destroyed  three Earth-bound outposts for the mind-control devices, including in Japan, which while an member of Axis, had been subjugated by the Nazi rule as soon as the AI took over.   When the destruction of the devices failed to liberate Earth, the visiting heroes grew suspicious of the Freedom Fighters and they began to battle among themselves.  Suspicious, the Red Tornado followed his own lead and found the fourth device in a massive satellite above Earth. Destroying it put an end to the AI and the people of Earth recovered their free will.  The Nazis, it seemed, were defeated (Justice League of America #107-108).

Confident that their nightmares were over, the Freedom Fighters stepped back and watch democracy take hold once more.  Over time, they began to feel unneeded and inspired by their visitors from Earth-One, decided to visit there and see if there was a way to feel more useful.  They arrived in New York in 1976 and set about trying to establish themselves as defenders of their new home.  Along the way, they discovered new powers, old enemies such as the Silver Ghost and encounter other refugees from their world such as Firebrand. They also had difficulty being accepted as heroes in part due to the lack of familiarity with Earth-One and in part due to machinations of the Silver Ghost (Freedom Fighters Vol. 1 #1-15).  Eventually, the Silver Ghost recruited the Secret Society of Super-Villains to aid his efforts and after a pitched battle, he was defeated but only at the cost of his own life and that of Firebrand when both were turned to solid silver (Unpublished Secret Society of Super-Villains #16 and 17).  After this, the Freedom Fighters abandoned the efforts and returned to Earth-X.

In their absence, the Nazis had once again gotten their footing and began their slow march to once more subjugate the world.  By 1982, they had again overrun Paris (Wonder Woman #292-293) though the United States appeared to be relatively secure (DC Comics Presents #62).  By 1985, the Crisis on Infinite Earth's had consumed the multiverse and while Earth-X was involved in the Villain War and observed in the final moments of that conflict (Crisis on Infinite Earths #9-10), it's thread of history was lost at that point and current activities in this timeline are unrevealed.

Balance of Good and Evil

Overall, the weight of probability in this timeline favors evil.  Autocratic forces tend to win more often that those that favor the better angels of human nature. The death rate of heroes is higher in this timeline than average and most specifically, Nazis forces win more often than not.

Abundance of Magic

In general, magic tends to be less common in the Earth-X timeline.  Uncle Sam may have a somewhat mystical nature but whether he is a denizen of Earth-Two or an the spirit of America across multiple timelines is unclear.  The remainder of documented characters on Earth-X have science/technical based powers if they have powers at all. The lack of restraint on Nazi influence suggests that artifacts like The Spear of Destiny that contained the Nazis on Earth-Two do not exist in this timeline.

Arrival of Heroes

While historical records are largely missing, no known super=power beings existed on Earth-X prior to 1942.  To date, all known costumed characters, hero or villain, actually originated on other worlds, primarily Earth-Two and knowledge of the indigenous super-power life forms in the timeline is lacking.
